Rain, rain, rain, rain ..... it stops for a day or two, then rains for 3 or 4 days. At least it's a steady rain, not a downpour or thunder. I think it's getting too late in the year to paint the deck; it just doesn't get a chance to dry out!

I haven't cleaned out the barn of barn swallow nests and sweep the floor of shavings and bird poop. Do you know of anything that will remove bird poop off the floor? That stuff is like acid if left on.

That is true, it can be a mess. Maybe just some general detergent or something. The barn that we have isn't the usual barn, my father build it for cows and it is round and open on the south, so more like a shed. It has an upper level for hay and that is where I see the nests. The floor has some old hay laying around so in a way kind of protects the actual floor. I don't really worry about cleaning it out much...I need to but haven't gotten around to it. Don't keep much hay up there as I feed round bales now, but I do like to keep a little alf to feed as a treat once in a while.

Did you ever see a round barn? There was one in one of the suburbs near Chicago. In the center was an arena just big enough to lunge a horse, surrounding the arena were individual stalls, surrounding the stalls was a very wide aisle originally used for riding horses when the weather was bad, and surrounding the aisle were individual stalls again. Originally it was a private barn so riding in the round aisle was feasible, but once it was turned into a boarding facility the aisle couldn't be used that way.

That sounds like a neat barn. That set up sounds like it would be really handy. I've seen pictures of some old barns that were round. Don't know what they were used for. I'm thinking the one I saw might have been an old dairy barn but not sure.
