Does raw food digest faster?

It seems like it does for my friend's cat Buddy (he's with me for a couple of weeks). He's about 9 years old and he's always been a little neurotic about food. Now that he doesn't have kibble around for him all the time, he seems to be on a very accurate timer for food.

What's really bothering me though is that I've noticed that he starts acting like he's hungry again after a couple of hours when I give him food. He weighs 16 lbs but his ideal weight is around 12 or 13 lbs. I've been feeding him a little more than 4 oz. a day (in the 2% range to see if that'll help him lose the extra weight). In order to deal with his yowling in the middle of the night, I've been giving him a stripped chicken leg every night so he can at least feel he's getting a full meal.

I'm just worried that he'll be horribly constipated if i keep on doing this for him and I want to know if anyone else has had to deal with this.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hermes. You know, it might digest faster since it has no fillers or anything!big grin Also, the less fat a meat has in it, the faster it will digest, so chicken probably goes through pretty quickly. I know that my guys sometimes get 3 suppers (like 3pm, 6pm, and before bed). They are 7 month old kittens though, so I'm wondering if they'll grow out of it. Also, I'm wondering if I'm not giving them enough at one time.

Anyway, I guess I wasn't too much help. Good luck!

When my cat was on full raw he would walk away full (but I was feeding from 2.5 to 3% of his body weight). Right now I have my cats on half raw and half canned and he is constantly hungry....poor thing. But I am making the switch to raw again so I am hoping this will help with the hunger pangs shrug I will be decreasing his intake to about 2% b/c he is overweight....
