Problems Getting Mugen in a Dog house

Hello Mugen's momma here, and I have a problem. See I recently moved into my grandmother's house with my babies Mugen and Dagger, and well...my gran won't let me keep them inside so I've had to compromise with her. Well I had a HUGE dog house built for Mugen big enough for me and him to both cuddle up inside, but he wouldn't get in it...not that he was afraid to go inside it, just when it rained he'd rather lay up close to the house curled up and endure the elements. It is very frustrating -_- especially because he is starting to dig in the neighbor's yard where he likes to lay *we keep in him in a grassy alley between the two houses on a runner cable*. The only time he's ever stayed in there was when I put an old comforter in there and he got on it ONE day, but now they house is lined with soft hay to keep them warm (Dagger is very cold natured), and though I went in there and he went in with me...when it rained that night he stayed in the neighbors yard by their house....instead of his nice dry dog house.

any suggestions on how to make my smartest baby grow some common sense?
