How old is your girl? Where di you get her? Is she registered with a reputable registry? Do you plan on earning titles before you breed? Do you plan on doing all the relevant health testing for her? What would be the purpose for breeding her?

Breeding is not something that should be taken lightly. There's alot more to it than just putting 2 dogs together and letting them do their thing. When your dealing with living, breathing, loving creatures you have to make sure you've done everything possible to ensure it worth the risks involved.

That being said if your girl is under 2 then you've got plenty of time to weigh out your descision. No dog should ever be bred on their first heat! Your dog shold be at least 2 before having her first litter, that way she's fully mature and you've gotten all the health testing done. If you're really serious about getting into breeding join your local breed club and get a mentor. A mentor in your breed is a must have! Even the top breeders in the country have mentors. Here a link to the Dachshund breed club (http://www.dachshund-dca.org/) so you can start finding breeders near you to help guide and educate you about the ins and outs of breeding.
