Shake and paw

This is very random, but does anyone know how to teach their dog shake and paw tricks? While teaching Annie to lay down, I'd gently pull her paws down from the sit position. Whenever I try to get her paw she thinks that I want her to lay down!

This isn't urgent, but I'd love the answer.

When I was teaching Hawken, I would make him sit, and then as I lifted his paw, I'd say, "Howdy". I did this quite a few times, every training secession, and eventually I didn't have to raise his paw, he realized what I wanted.

I actually figured it out a different way. Annie knows over 55 tricks and commands now! I would tell her to lay down while sitting and catch her paw on the way down then treat and add the command Gimme that Paw.
