When should i teach my cocker how to swim? I know it comes naturally, but do you guys have any tips?

Mine is a year and a half, and last year he was scared of the water. I brought him along with other water loving dogs, like a lab and he started to go in. Just this year though he actually goes out swimming on his own.

I would just introduce them to the water, but never push them in or carry them in. They might learn to see it as a punishing sort of technique. Although I'm pretty hypocritical, I put mine in by carrying him out and let him swim back. I only did it once and I think maybe he realized how much he liked it?
