|How to Teach "Bow" (It's all about the Capture!)
(1) Ask yourself, what makes me get into play-mode? (natural inviting play bow)
For my sister we get on our knees and say "Kayla!... Bowww!... (quicking putting both our arms extended out straight and slightly in front of us)" This makes Kayla get all happy & excited so she throws herself into a play bow. Click & Treat!
For Zoe our neighbor we grab her favorite toy and squeek it a bunch until she gets all riled up. Once she throws us a play bow we Click & Treat. Keep the energy and try to create the behavior again. click & treat. Repeat Shaping then move into Capture. Stand there watching to see if they will throw you the behavior. Click & Treat! Once they throw the behavior a couple times add the word "Bow" if they respond click and treat. If not... never never say it say it twice twice.
If you find yourself not being able to create a play bow try to capture this behavior at a dog park, social hour, or while he/she plays with friends!
