Most SD users disagree with having an ID card to show because according to ADA it is not required. I however find them extremely useful and they have helped me be accepted into many stores. (They have the law on the back as well as the info about Laura and how I'm a certfied raiser/trainer)

Any thoughts on this? I intend to keep using them but I've been told that it makes it harder for self trained SD's because they aren't given the ID like say if they graduated from an accredited school.

we use an id card. it isnt like the normal ones but it helps. but some people dont accept them any way( my sd and sdit ) and they dont care if they have certificates or ids . but it does help. elliot is through a real orginisation and oz im training.it doesnt matter if its the card i had made for oz or the custom made from the place tha trained elliot. some people just dont care

An ID card is nothing more than a card with your dogs info on it and picture. Some have the federal laws or you can make your own with the state laws on it if you have an SDit since they are not covered by federal law. There is no reason that anyone should object to that. Infact I think that most SDs should have them for the owner info or numbers to call incase of emergency. What I think they are upset about and think you are showing people is not an ID card at all. They are thinking you are showing people some sort of certification or paperwork to state that your dog is an SD.
But just remember here, no matter what others say, you have to do what is right for YOU and your SD. As long as that doesnt come with the price of making it more difficult for those behind you. You do what you need to do.dog
