 | | | | I included my beloved collie Ivy in the group. She's gone, and I miss her. But now I have Gryff!
I have always been into collies-since watching Lassie on tv (with Timmy). I begged my parents for one, but I had to wait a LONG time-till 13 years ago. I've been collecting collie stuff for years-Albert Payson Terhune, several copies of Lassie Come Home (it's a sickness really!) and collie figurines. I recently picked up a copy of 'My Friend the Dog' illustrated by Marguerite Kirmse-that was quite a find!
Ivy was gentle-she loved to walk and never pulled on the leash. Gryff, on the other hand, is very strong and pulls all time! He sees a squirrel and if I'm not careful I'll lose an arm! I rescued him exactly 3 months ago today (!!) I was walking him today and passed a neighbor who said 'beautiful collie'! I wouldn't describe him as beautiful. I think he's more handsome. He looks like a collie, I admit, but hey, I had him shaved, so I won't know how beautiful his coat is until it grows out!
Anyway-like Ivy, he doesn't seem interested in chasing sticks and such (doesn't have an interest in any toys-I don't think he's ever had any, poor guy), but loves walking. So we'll be doing alot of that. I've been trying to 'tame' him (get him to stop pulling so much and for gosh sakes 'heal'!), and hope someday to get him trained enough to be let out in the yard with the Canine Fence. That's a long way off! I'm starting to be more consistent with 'sit at the door' before we go out, and all the other commands. I know, I have to train myself! He's getting it more through my consistency!
Anyway-that's it for now! I'm sort of sporadic with online stuff, but I'll check back here often. I'll check out everyone's bio's later.
Have fun, everyone! | | | | |
