NICHOLS HILLS — An annual chance to walk the dog in the park and help raise money for animal adoption efforts is planned for Sunday, organizers said.

The 2008 Pooch Parade is noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Grand Park, NW 65 and Grand Boulevard.

The event is a fundraiser for Animal Rescue Friends of Nichols Hills Inc. The cost to register a dog for the parade is $25 and includes a T-shirt and dog treats.

Animal Rescue Friends president Dottie Lammerts said the event supports efforts to find homes for lost dogs.

Nichols Hills has an animal control officer who picks up lost or stray dogs and cats five days a week. Group members spend time on Saturdays taking the animals to a local pet store to find people interested in adopting them, Lammerts said.

This is the fifth year the group has taken over the Pooch Parade as a way to raise money for the cause.

"Our budget gets bigger each year and we need the money,” Lammerts said. "We appreciate everything people do for us.”

The event is free to watch. Anyone who can't make the parade but wants to donate to the group can make checks payable to Animal Rescue Friends of Nichols Hills Inc., 1009 NW 75, Nichols Hills, OK 73116.
