I'm hoping I can find some answers here. I have a 2 1/2 year old Maltipoo and probably since the beginning of summer, his skin has started turning black. My Husband and I never really thought anything of it. We were discussing it yesterday and I got a little nervous. He is black everywhere except a little patch on his chest and his ears. Any ideas what this might be and what I need to do? All answers are greatly appreciated!!!

Yes, see your vet immediately. I've heard of something called black skin disease in dogs and it needs immediate attention if that's what it is. Let us know how things turn out.

If he's been in the sun a lot, it's probably his pigment getting darker. Maltese tend to have 'cow spots' and if there is good pigment, the skin will darken. If it's in direct correlation to a lot of sun exposure, I think it's nothing to worry about. But if you're unsure, definitely consult a vet!
