Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself- I have a three year old border collie or aussie or what-have-you mix named AFFA (Another FFilthy Animal) who just started flyball this winter. I'm new to the sport too, and we both LOVE it! snoopy so far affa's doing great training with a fantastic team and hoping to compete soon. she did her first demo for a dog park opening today and her first run was as a green dog in training and her second run was with the seasoned team. she did pretty well considering it was an outdoor event and she hasn't done much passing in practice yet. like I said, we're both green so any tips and secrets and cool products we should know about I'd love to hear! actually, does anyone have any recommendations for harnesses? I'm thinking of getting her one from alpine outfitters. Thanks!

You can't resist- me.

Hi Affa. We are still fairly new to flyball too. Cotton and I joined flyball a year and a half ago. Abby joined flyball a few months later. Cotton and I jumped into the sport full force so a lot of people forget that we really haven't been around that long. At the beginning of this year, I mentioned to someone from another club that it had only been a year, they could hardly believe it because they see us around so much. Cotton trained in just a few months and we were attending every tournament possible.
Cotton has been running with our club's fastest team for about a year and Abby started running with teams at the beginning of this summer.
We just got back from a very exciting weekend of flyball. This weekend was totally Abby's tournament to shine and prove herself to be a flyball dog. She had been a bit timid about other tournaments but looked confident and happy this weekend. We worked out lots of the kinks from the previous tournaments and she did better than I could have ever expected.cloud 9cloud 9cloud 9 I couldn't be happier about her.

As far as a harness, I really like the Puppia harnesses. I feel like there is more cushion rather than strap when they pull. Both of my girls wear them. They look quite comfortable and fashionable too. I have had many people ask me where to get them. I should be on comission to the pet store. big laugh
Good luck. I am looking forward to hearing about your adventures in flyball.
