Can we pressure Dogster to add 'wolf hybrid' as a breed choice.

I was disappointed, though not surprised to not see Wolf' as a breed choice. I was actually thrilled to see a place to checkmark if your dog had wolf/coyote blood and I checked it. Now my bio says I'm "Part Feral". I've been ranting about it but not sure who to rant to. Mirriam Webster says that feral means 'wild or of the wild' and a synonym is 'brutal'. Now we aren't wild if we are moms pets and certainly we're anything but brutal. Mom is just outraged that Dogster is so insensitive as to categorize us and hang the word feral on our bios.

Can we lobby or petition or just complain and rant enough to get them to add wolf hybrid or wolf as a breed do you think? Ra is too easy going to get mad about it but if mom is mad then I'm mad too!

I agree! I thought it would say wolf hybrid when I clicked on it then it added that horrible part feral. Crazy but oh well.

I think it is probably best.It seems our breed sorta needs a low profile sometimes.Don't get me wrong.I am all for being able to say"Hey this is my wolfhybrid Manny" but some just don't get it.The image of "the big bad wolf" pops into their heads.lol

I think dogster should add wolf to the breed choice too. I know it's not a breed of dog like a dingo (cause dingo's are wild dogs) but it doesn't let us tell our true breed! smile

Amen, and maybe I'm crazy (I've been told so) but I didn't see any searches for "Part Feral" either. And I dont like having to lie about what kind of dog I am either. silenced I put Husky/Malamute for my bred but I am really half and half, Husky/Wolf with a tiny bit of malamute. I think it's unfair. What are we gonna do? shrug What about a petition that we could all sign or something?hughappy dance

You are right about the low profile thing but I really think we are fairly safe here on dogster. Although, I just did the Red Cross Together Tag and it is a resource for AC and that lists my Dogster links so I guess in that way AC could discover that my dogs are part wolf (the new dogs I didn't check the box cuz I did a rush job adding them yesterday and I so hate the 'part feral' thing) and with the laws WA is making that could create problems. Although I live on the indian reservation so that kind of keeps me safe, most people don't have that protection.

I think it is important for responsible wolf dog owners to let their voices be heard and help fight the 'big bad wolf' image and stop these ludicrous wolf dog bans from being passed though and the first step in doing that is to acknowledge that we have and love our wolf dogs who are mostly gentle, loving pets.

Two sides to every coin. Thanks for answering - I get frustrated with some of these groups because it seems no one comments.

Actually I don't think that it should be added, because it would be kind of like having a Labradoodle or a Puggle as an option. I think that the breeds should stay purebred only. (That's what the 'part feral' box is for wink

I feel a lot like Kyra, but I also HATE the "part feral" on my profile! I think that Husky or Malamute should be our breed name, but that when we check "part wolf or coyote" it should say "part wolf or coyote" on our profile. But I wouldn't want to be labeled a wolf by animal control because where I live, I'm legal, but in a lot of neighboring towns and such, I'm not. If I were to roam too far and be picked up by animal control there, they could put me down.
