We would like to nominate R & J Animal Rescue, from Mount Calm, TX.

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/TX1134.html

R & J ANIMAL RESCUE

Although animal lovers, these folks did NOT set out to be an animal rescue. They retired from a nearby town, and set out to live on their farm, perhaps raise goats & sheep, & live happily ever after.

What they found, unfortunately, was that many people dumped their animals on their rural country road. Unfortunately, this is a common practice around here. We are all not heathens, but there are many that are not educated or do not care!!

R & J could not understand why anyone would do this, and they started taking in the abandoned animals.

The husband & wife live off of social security, and barely have food for themselves, but found their hearts open wide when it came to these abandoned animals.

They are a NO-KILL shelter, and use their OWN money to feed, shelter & get vet care for these animals.

They have received many different breeds, ranging from Chihuahuas, to Great Pyrenees, to Min Pins, to Aussies, to mixed, etc..... Apparently, people are NOT discriminatory when they come to abandoning & forsaking animals!! : (

They have recently started taking other animals besides dogs, as a concerned citizen called in about a race horse that had been abandoned & caught in a fence. She is now on the road to health & happiness, thanks to R & J rescue!!!

We recently had a neighbor who abandoned her animals, and Momma called them to see if they could help. This rescue opened their hearts to rescue these animals, sight unseen. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take these abandoned animals to them, as law would claim we were stealing "property"!!!

As much as Momma wanted to help these animals, she did NOT want to be thrown in jail. Luckily, many of the animals were rescued & the few left were taken to another shelter.

I tell you all this because R & J was willing to take ALL these animals, cats & dogs, sight unseen, from a pleading email I sent the organization.

They are currently trying to raise money to build a new dog shelter, but no one is willing to donate the concrete for the shelter.

Momma wanted to step in & do that, but is not able to afford the whole bill.

Obviously, these folks have their hearts in the right place, they just need support & help from other like-minded people.

Even if this rescue is not picked, perhaps you will consider a donation to this worthy cause.

They need all the help they can get, and will accept any donations of GOOD dog food, towels, beds, and any pet supplies that one can imagine!

Any amount helps, as it does for so many of the other worthy rescues out there.

For every idiot out there that doesn't care about animals, or humanity for that matter, we are trying to raise awareness & let people know that, TOGETHER, we CAN make a difference!!!!!! No matter how or who you give to, we CAN make a difference!

A bag of dog food, a dollar here, a volunteer service there, a kind & caring & loving heart is all it takes!!!

Please consider this humble R & J rescue for our next nomination pick, or for future donations.

Thank you for reading & considering this rescue, and thank all of you for being such great members of this super group!

TOGETHER we CAN make a difference!!!!!!

Many blessings to all,

Annabelle, Rex, Wolfgang, Momma Cheryl & family

I thought we could commemorate the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by helping out an organization that came to the aid of Katrina pets after the storm. That's why I'd like to include Animal Rescue of New Orleans (ARNO) as a nominee for this month. They are a newer organization that formed after the need arose because of the storm. They really are doing wonderful things for the pets affected by Katrina.

I signed up to volunteer in their food and water program a couple of years ago and am so impressed with the work they do not only to help find homes for the homeless pets, but also to feed those who are still roaming the streets. Trust me when I say that you can call animal control in New Orleans, but you don't have much luck in getting them to actually come out.

I think it would be an easy organization to donate to because they accept PayPal. And if you decide you don't have the money to donate they are always in need of supplies, too!

I hope you enjoy reading about this rookie organization that has done so much in such little time.
