Hello, just thought maybe I could create a thread for introductions. Maybe it would encourage pups (and cats!) to post. So...tell us about yourselves and your diagnosis if Bentley our moderator extraordinaire doesn't mind.

Me...I'm Lucy Louise. I was adopted at age 14 last August, and I was almost immediately diagnosed with a stage IV systolic murmur. The vet feels like it's mitral valve regurgitation traced back to possible dental disease/endocarditis in my younger days. With medication (Benazipril), low sodium diet, mild exercise and lots of TLC I'm doing pretty good all things considered. So far, my kidneys are functioning up to par for my age despite being on meds, and I've been fortunate to not have any symptoms of congestive heart failure...at least not yet. So no need for diuretics. way to go

So...anyone else wanna step up to the podium and tell us about you and your experience with canine or feline heart disease so far? thinking

Well, I'm still learning about my disease. So far I've been told that I have a grade 4 murmur and they started me on 5mg Enalapril a day. Mom is setting up an appointment with a doctor in our new town though that was going to school to be a cardiologist but he stayed general practice so he didn't have to move. Everyone says he really knows his stuff! They have a senior wellness program there that gets you all sorts of blood tests and body scans for a discounted price if you get them done all at once.

Big smooches to both of you cute girlies cloud 9cloud 9

I have been coughing a lot more this weekend. Mummy has increased my hydrocodon (as the cardiologist said she could) to see if this helps. She can't increase the Lasix as she is not home during the day and I can't pee inside.

Hi, doggies. Hope you are all feeling OK. I'm an older doggie (13) with congestive heart failure....I take vetmedin and furosamide (the diuretic)..it really helps and I feel fine most of the time. I cough when I have to go out in the cold air, so mom may increase my furosamide a little bit. I was diagnosed almost a year ago and was acute then but I am doing really well now hamster dancehamster dance Good to hear from all of you.
