Clyde broke his leg when he was 9 weeks old and then last week he did something to his front left leg and was limpimg, we took him to the vet and he said it appears he pulled a muscle well it has been exactly 1 week and he seems to be getting worse, so today he is going to another vet. The first vet said it was fairly coomon in large breeds such as prys, newfs and st bernard puppies that they get leg injuries due to there size and awarkness and they want to romp and play like all pups, has anyone else heard of this. This has me really worried about Clyde and the poor guy seems to be in so much pain, even after he takes the pain medicine the vet has given him, hopefully today we will be able to get to the bottom of this, I feel so bad for him. Please send your prayers our way.

I went to the vet yesterday, and they took 8 xrays(4 VIEWS) 4 of my good leg, and 4 of the leg I have been limping on. Two vets looked at my xrays and could find nothing wrong, the only thing they saw was "thumbprints" which they say causes growing pains, they think I am growing to fast and they also said my bones were not completely fuse togather, but I was only 6 months old so thats not uncommon. They put me on some pain meds and steroids. They told Mommy my food was fine. I went from 77 pounds on Saturday to 80 pounds yesterday (Wednesday). They told mommy to keep me immobile for a few days till the pain subsides....LOL on that one, shes trying her hardest, but I have a problem with that one. Give me a break I am a puppy.

I looked at the breed a lot after losing my lab to lymphoma and the one before her to bad hips. it seemed like the pyr was a very healthy dog with very few problems. So far I have been blessed with a very healthy dog with no problems

Angus you sure are lucky. I was wondering if anyone knew the typical age that puppies bones fuse and also if anybody else had this problem, is it likely to go away after my growth slows down?

Clyde,
Micajeh, as a pup, playing with Dante fell into a french drain we were putting together ... I guess they were just playing around. Micajeh hurt his leg, affected his back. We had xrays, we were to be really careful and watch him. -- I decided to start my own physical therapy of gentle massage, stretching, limited walks ... really watching him. Still today, with both our pups, I do something called a 'superman' stretch, on their back ... where they extend their front paws like they are flying ... stretch them out, then do the same with the back paws, leg extension. This is a very gentle, and almost stretching move, they seem to really enjoy. I've noticed as they have gotten older, they want to do it on their sides more, rather than their back. And the leg Micajeh injured will always be 'more special' for us to look after, due to it's now inherant weakness. That's okay ... he/they both love their walks briskly.
