I'm glad to be in a group with other parsons b/c maybe we can find out some stuff about me! Mom is kind of a "softie" which means I've not been trained very well. I'm usually pretty tolerant of other dogs (once I know them) unless they bother me, and then I can get pretty snippy and loud. I've even gotten into some bad fights with my brother who is a smaller dog (and who bugs me ALL the time). Is this part of my temperment or is this something that could be addressed with training? I've worked with a trainer but only for a short period of time. I saw on a site something about a behavioralist being more expensive but in the long run much more effective...anyone have any experience there?

well max isn't very trained, but you should bring your dog to dogparks as much as you can to at least try to break this snippy habit. but in the long run a behaviorist may be a bit more money but you will have a better behaved dog.

Hi!
I have just joined this group and Doster so I hope it's ok if I interject here.
Though more money, if you can afford a behaviorist they are very well worth the investment. A good behaviorist has extensive knowledge about the species and animal they are working with. As well as the latest behavior modification techniques and training aides.

That being said, every behavior has a trigger behind it. To eliminate it you need to find out why. Look at the natural instincts of dogs and which instinct it is that is setting the dog off. I always find it effective when rehabilitating birds to have a very good understanding of the natural habitat and social structure of the wild flock. I would imagine that the same would apply in the canine world.
I hope this is a little bit of help smile
