How do I stop him from tearing up the crate?

Tater goes in on command...
It is NEVER a punishment...
He sleeps fine in it, plays fine too...
But when he's ready to come out he tears at it & has already gotten the livingroom crate to the point that I can only close one latch & then he just squeezes through it...
He has NOT torn up the one in my daughters room (that one he sleeps in all night)shrug

I'm not sure why, maybe he's bored.
Try puting squeaky toys in there with him or a Kong filled with peanut butter. You can get Kongs at pet stores. That's where I got Treader's Kong. The Kong is designed to keep dogs occupied when you put it in crates/leave the dog at home. Also, you can try exercising him until he's tired before you put him in the crate.
Keep us updated please.

He was run all around the yard the yard today, given the kong filled with peanut butter...
Tore his way out of the livingroom crate again...sigh...
Put him in his night crate in Erin's room with the kong(refilled) & a floppy stuffy...he laid down & went to sleepshrug
I am SO confused!

are both crates the same? Maybe he prefers the type in your daughter's room?

Hmmm...
Maybe just use the crate that he likes like Duke said.

The livingroom crate is big enough for him & our other big dog Rusty (Rusty sleeps in it)...
The other one is smaller & has a blanket around it & is only about 2 ft from Erin's bed...

I would recommend maybe putting a puzzle toy, such as a KONG in there, or any other puzzle toy. Maybe one a bit more challenging. If you freeze them, too, that would help. Just a suggestion.
