Princess is a terrible rider in a vehicle. She is in a crate and the mintute you shut the door she barks non stop at first. She gets herself so worked up everytime. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. She rides in a car at least once a week if not more.

Is she crate-trained in other areas of her life or just for traveling?

I have two ideas which may help:

Crate train her in home and make it a positive, fun experience (special chewies/treats) Then transfer that to the car.

Crate her in the car but don't go any where until she is quiet. A clicker and partner to treat might be a good addition to this. When she is riding quietly reward her. When she is being loud ignore it.

She was crate trained when she was little but hasn't been in one at home for a long time. The excessive barking is only at first when you close the door but by the time we get somewhere she is a slobbery mess. At times she has even bit her tongue.

Some suggested a muzzle but I have never used one of those on any on my pups and don't know if they work or not.

I think that Mack's suggestion is a good one.
Work with her crate training her in the car, don't go anywhere at first, then when she's calm go somewhere.
You also may want to put something to comfort her in the crate with her. She probably wants to be with you. Put something that has your smell on it like a blanket. And a toy like a Kong or chew toy.

On Victoria Stillwell's show on animal planet she did the sitting in the car too but also added "curtains" around so the dogs couldn't see...
Everytime they pulled them back & the dogs barked she closed them again. If they were quiet she gave a treat...
Just a thoughtthinking
