Hello! Could anyone please recommend a harness to us for our Great Dane, Daisy. Despite 45 minute walks every morning she is still pulling with great bravo and making walks nothing but a battle. We currently use a choker chain but, (A) it seems useless as there is no give in it to "check" her as she pulls so hard and (B) I'm not keen on them anyway. I've seen many harnesses available, some with the rings on the chest, some on the back but have no idea which is best suited to our girl. We tried a Halti, but Daisy could flick it back around her neck and then off in seconds and I got too worried she'd escape me oneday! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated as I'd love to enjoy our walks together. Cheers!

I am not sure about a harness. I am sorry to hear that the choke chain has not worked for you. I am like you. I don't really care for them but they are affective with certain dogs. Pebbles was very easy to break to a leash because she doesn't like to be pulled on anymore than I do. It only took one time for me to pull on her with a choke chain and it has been smooth sailing ever since. So much so that she has only wore that choke chain once. There is another type of collar that you can use though that might help. It is called a pinch collar.....I know....it sounds cruel, but I did alot of research into them before I bought one for my dad's bulldog (who wouldn't stop pulling no matter how much you pulled back). They do not puncture the skin in any shape form or fashion. They give the dog a different kind of pressure and sensation that gets their attention easier. If you are worried about just the medal pieces touching your dogs neck you can buy plastic tips to go over them. I hope this might give you another option in training your dog for walks. They are quite enjoyable for everyone once they learn not to pull. Good Luck!

We've not had to use a harness. *I* (Sage) walks well just with the leash. The other (Jade) pulls more so with Mommy than with the Daddy. And the Pup, well he's just learning on a leash. Try walking on Three!!! We got a splitter for the leash, now if Mommy can just find it. LOL.

Good Luck

We use the gental leader but I can still pull a little. I am wondering if a halti and a gental leader combo would be good? I had a prong collor before but mom said I was too stupid to realize that I could stop chocking myself by not pulling. Really it was her that got trained by getting rid of it....hehe.

Did you get it solved? You can use a head collar, just get them used to it in the house and yard and take a snak for the first few times. But the moment that is on, they just will not pull. If they do, their head goes to the side and they stop. It is pretty simple. Victoria Stillwell is suggesting that as well and has great success with it.

I never neede it for my Danes, but have 2 very large Catahoulas and they need it.
For Danes I would not suggest anything that is poking or pintching on their neck. Danes are big but very sensitive.
Good luck. wink

I walk with a pinch collar. the choke chains are useless!! Isy walks just fine, I only use it for "just in case" instances. She's a big girl and if something happens I want to be able to control her. It's my insurance policy of sorts. Really the best thing to stop pulling is obedience class. A good class can be any where from $50-150, but sooooooo worth it! It's better to rely on good training than a hunk of metal! A pinch collar or harness or whatever is only a band-aid and doesn't address the real reason your dog is pulling. Fix the behavior and it wont matter what collar you use!
