My Yorkiepoo is 10 mo. old and we made the mistake of paper training him (very cold, snowy winter)as it was too cold to take him out. We left his crate door open at night in the kitchen. If we locked him in and he would cry/howl all night. He would however poop and pee inside.(Crate size is correct) He would then come out to do his business. Now he thinks it is ok to use the kitchen floor where the training paper was. How do we break him of this habit?

Since he goes in the house, you should consider litter training.
Put the box about 8 feet from its crate.
after giving him water or after taking him out of his crate you should put him in the box, even if he keeps jumping out, you have to keep putting him in there until he goes. After he does his business be sure to praise him.
I have started litter training Bandit, and It works well.
He learned within a week that the litter box was his bathroom.
