Where and how are your Cairns groomed? My mom has been brushing me and pulling out dead hairs. Is there a better way to get those loose hairs out besides pulling them out? I don't mind, but it is so tedious, and mom's fingers get tired. confused

I just go to a local groomer and they do a good job. If you're not sure maybe check and see if your vet has a recommendation. Mommy keeps mine a little long but they give me a nice bath and brushing. They do cut some hair off. See how you like it, you can always have them do it different the next time.

Hope this helps.wave

Hi there, Mackinze!

The Colonel Potter Cairn Rescue Network website has a instructions and advice for traditional handgrooming which would be good to know even if you don't want the tedium and it is tedious. You look on the left of the home page for 'grooming'. My brother and I get groomed the easy way with thining sheers for legs, tail and ears and a Mars Coat King for the body. The Mars cuts and pulls at the same time to thin the coat. Just pull it along gently, like a hair brush, until you get used to the effect. Too much and you'll have a denuded dog. I think this is what the Furminator is supposed to do, but the Mars, while more expensive, is higher quality and you can replace the blade. The Col. Potter site also sells an American version of the Mars, less expensive but with plastic handle and can't replace blade. Please do some Google research on the use of this type of product to see if it is what you need. If you go to a groomer, make sure you know what that person thinks is grooming for a Cairn.

Hoping this helps!

Also, on the Cairn Rescue USA site, in the Curiosity Shoppe section selling grooming supplies, there is a before and after picture of a Cairn groomed with a Mars Coat King, that you can click on to get a better picture.
