So I was pawing through an article the other day discussing how to choose a name for a pup. thinking

The article mentioned such things as using one or two syllable names (to get the pup's immediate attention); consideration of how easy or difficult it is to yell out when calling your pup (like in a pet store commercial "come Mr. Barky Von Schnauzer"); using hard consonants (again to get the pup's immediate attention); and avoiding names that sound like a command (i.e. "Joe" & "No") or my favorite "Fritz" & "Fetch".... big laugh

Okay pups, why were YOU given the Call Name you have? thinking
Perhaps more importantly ... what are some of your nicknames and what's the story behind that pawticular nickname shh silenced shh

In my case, I arrived home with the name Fritz, and since I responded to it so well, my pawrents decided to leave well enough alone way to go
OMD shock while writing this, I just realized that I don't have a nickname thinking (what's that all about?) shrug

We will have to come up with a nickname for you Fritz! Time to put those thinking caps on.thinking

Mom named me Abigail because it's Irish meaning is "brings joy". Abie for short because it is 2 syllables and ends with an "e" sound. Mom read that "e" and "a" sounds are difficult to say without sounding pleasant so they make good endings for dog names.

My Dad has the most nicknames for me, Wubba, Wabie, Puppa, Bubba, Bubs, Poona.red face He's silly.

I got my new name when I first met my new parents. They just got back from a to Sicily and they had a short list of names decided before the trip. Luna, Pinot, Veruca, Lydia, etc... They kept coming across the name Luna in sicily (Hotel, restaurant, street, etc) and they knew it was the name for me.

Anyway, I have lots of nicknames some of which I love and other to which I would rather not respond... Luna moona, Luni, Tuna, loonie-toons, destructor, lu-lu, boo-boo, etc.

One day, while visiting my hooman grandparents, my grandfather called me "Buddy" and lo & behold, I came running up and sat in front of him as if he had called me Fritz!!! So then grandmother did the same and, again, I go running to her and present myself. So now, when my attention is needed, they either call me Fritz, Buddy, or cookie...

Lexy was choosen for me because it is the name mom thought of when she met me. I was named Cassie in my foster home but every time momma called me she kept wanting to say Lexy.

For Nick Names... Grandpa calls me Chico ( he just says I look like a chiko)
Momma calls me "pretty girl" and both Baylee and I respond to "girls" and "girlie(s)"

Oreo was chosen for my name for several reasons:

First, Mom didn't want a name that end in "y" or "ie" because she thought that Buddy and I would get confused when being called.

Second she wanted something cute, not a person name, and not too "girly". So, she thought of a sweet cookie smile OREO
Sugar

While driving home from the dog pound where Mom and my human brother got me I heard them discussing different names for me. My old name was Bridgette and they didnt want to bring back any sad memories for me. They decided on the name Sugar. I took the the name immediately! Right away, with no problem at all. I just knew that was my name. They named me Sugar cause I am sooooo sweet. After a while mom wondered why in the world did she name a black dog Sugar. Oh well, the name fits me once you really know me!
Some times Momma calls me Baby girl, or little baby or Sooga Booga .cloud 9
Buster

My name was a difficult one to come by. Mom really wanted a name that fit me, my looks and personality.
The name choices were:
Buster
Cowboy
Spice
Copper

Not only did mom ask my human brother what he thought , she also had the children in her montessori school take a vote.

We all decided on Buster. It fits him cause he is so full of life and happiness that it almost bursts forth out of him. Sometimes his human brother calls him Butter or It. Mom calls him Baby Boy and he likes that. The name he likes to come to the most though is "Treat".

When mom adopted me from the rescue organization, they were calling me Skye. Dad didn't like that name, so I was renamed big grin
