Tell me all about your Elkie's personality!! I would love to get to know other Elkies here. I am planning on getting a second one, and I would like to know what other personality types there are!! Scouty is extremely gentle. Wondering what I might expect form a second addition!

I have two who get along fabulously. They are well socialized and love everyone.

GREAT dogs!

I was told that 2 females don't get along as well as one of each. Is this true?

I never have had issues, and I know plenty of people with multiple females and no fights. But I did have a friend whose elkhounds were a quarrelsome lot, and gender made no difference. That said, most recommendations suggest males like females better than girls like girls

Nori is about a year and a half now. She's extremely playful. She'll play with most dogs in the park. In fact, she'll be the one to run into the park and get all the dogs to chase her. When she was a lot younger, she used to run and hide under picnic tables if other dogs scared her or bothered her too much. Now, she's really grown into her own and she's much more assertive. She's very well socialized and plays very fair with both small and big dogs. She's not a fan of strangers and finds people, who are too familiar with her before she gets a sniff in, very rude. So she often dodges their pats. But once she's gotten a good sniff, she's your friend forever. She's very attached to us. We're doing very well with the off leash training. We're working on "quiet" when she barks at someone in the hall but that's coming a long a little more slowly since she always has to have the last "woof". ALWAYS. Even if it's under her breath.

I am calm, courtly, sweet, placid, and very friendly to strangers, both human and canine. In February 2008, I turned 12 and I've been wiht my mom and dad since I was 10.

Little Bit is comic, affectionate, more high strung than me, terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks, and tries her best to intimidate anyone she doesn't know who dares cross the threshold to her domain! She's approx. 4 or 4 1/2, and has lived with us for a little over a year.

I wasn't quite certain about LB when she came to live with us, but I've grown accustomed to her and miss her when she's not here. LB is much more demonstrative in her affection for me, and my steady, reserved presence is very calming for her.

I have had four so far, two dogs and two bitches, two dogs together, a dog and a bitch and now two bitches. I have never had a problem with them that wasn't just about one being older and less playful, or one being possessive about a toy or something.

I think it's all about the nature of the dogs. Most elkhounds are very sociable and I would think it rare that you would have two who just didn't get on.

I have had one who was very placid and just wanted to please and have an easy life. One who was very boisterous and was quite a handful, although had a lovely nature in himself. I now have a girly princess who needs to be as close to you as possible and another who loves to play but is happy to lie on her own. Only one of them was a barker, and we did manage to curb that quite a bit.

My friend who shows and breeds them has seven of them (and more when she is dog sitting for me!) and they are great together. they live in the house and although they do take over the place, they are no bother, they live as a pack, with my friend as Alpha.

Not sure if this helps your decision or not, but I'd say get two females.

i had never heard of elk hounds till my kita turned up. she loves to get a chase off other dogs. It did take a good few months to stop her from just running up to other dogs, she thought every dog she saw was friendly, she now understands and will lay down and check them out 1st. she always has to get the 1st sniff in no other dog is allowed till she is reading y. she also has a way of looking at you then creeping up if she wants something off you giving the sad look its really funny and she has a close bond with my 4 yr old daughter wereshe goes kita is behind and she will let us know if anyone is knocking or hanging around and anyone who comes to visit are welcome and i also think its allabout how they a brought up u treat them right they will do the same snoopy
