Hey pals,

I got stones in my bladder and they were removed earlier this week. They are being tested but are suspected to be urate stones, common to us Dals. I don't want to ever get them again!

Is anyone on a diet specifically to prevent this? My mom wants to know...

Thanks! The Henster

Hey Henster, aka Henry,

Yeah Bladder stones are not fun.....My Moms last dal got them once and he wasn't happy. Mom has me on a very strict diet. I am allergic to most everything. SO my treats consists of apples, carrots, venison, salmon and steamed veggies. Mom has me on Hills IVD dry dog food. Venison and Patato limited ingredients.

I do know they have a dry food (Hills) that hekp with prevention of bladder stones. I think you need a Vets approval though.

I hope that helps....

Hi, I'm new here, so bear with me please. I don't have bladder stones, but I do know you shouldn't have foods high in purines. I know the special diet is a big help and you need to drink LOTS of water. The Dalmatian Club of America has info on foods and purines. If the purines are too high, that's what causes the stones to form. There's other sites that will come up too. Hope that helps a little. wave

Thanks friends,

My mom got a book all about Dalmatians and found out some interesting things in the "general feeding guidelines" section. For instance, organ meats, red meats and poultry in all forms are bad for Dals, according to the book. Who knew? I was previously eating a good diet but not one that was good for me. I'm now on whitefish and sweet potato, but we're still experimenting. More later.

Thanks for the help!
