Tessie Mae- Little Tootsie

Hello my fellow Boston Terrier lovers,
I have had my Tessie Mae for almost two years now. She is a wonderful puppy and I can't wait until the day that my husband lets me get another one.
The breeder that I got Tessie from Triple C Kennels has 3 new litters of BT puppies. I was so excited when I found out that Tessie's Mom, Snicker, and Dad, Abe, just had another litter together. I would get one of these pups, but I just recently had a baby so my husband said no. Oh well, maybe next time.
The Cooleys were wonderful to deal with. Everything when smoothly with her delivery and they were so kind with all our questions. I was very pleased with everything, and that is why I am recommending them to you.
Just tell them that Tessie sent you.

Upon examining the site, I'm not so certain that this IS a quality breeder. Three litters in one year is a bit much. Also, the health guarantee wasn't a health guarantee at all. Basically, you have to take the new pup to the vet within 24 hours, then have another 24 to report any health concerns to Triple C Kennels. The kennel makes no mention of what happens to their pups, so we don't know if the puppies who are born healthy stay healthy, or if they might show a genetic defect later on.

Let's pretend I purchased my dog Lily from them. She is a happy, healthy puppy of 3 months, and I take her straight to the vet per the terms of the agreement. All her bloodwork checks out, she shows no signs of disease, and we're good to go, right? Oh, wait, she was born deaf. Unless that is specifically checked (and believe me, a deaf dog can fool people into thinking they're not) it might not be diagnosed. Deafness is a hereditary problem often presented in Bostons. This kennel makes no mention of whether their dogs have been tested for deafness or even any of the puppies. It would be present from birth, though, so it could be caught in the 48 hour period.

Anyway, whether or not the vet catches on to her disability we keep her and love her and she's an integral part of our family. A few months pass and she's nearly a year old- still happy and healthy as can be. Except one day I notice something funny about her eyes and take her to the vet, who sends me to a veterinary opthamologist. She was diagnosed with juvenile cataracts (hereditary disease) and degenerated retinas (either hereditary or from poor prenatal care) and, after a brief spat with our conscience had lens replacement surgery on the hopes that she had enough retinal function to see without the cataracts. (which, knock on wood, a month after surgery seems to be the case). In the course of the past year or so we've spent over $4000 on getting her to see again. We're pretending that we bought her from Triple C for this purpose- I am way past the 48 hour after receipt time to get any benefit from the health guarantee, but the kennel is somewhat responsible for breeding two carriers of the juvenile cataracts gene together to produce my Lily who had to suffer for it.

The website mentions common genetic disorders in Bostons and Pugs (which they also breed) but only as a statement of fact. They don't go on to say that none of their dogs have ever show signs of these disorders, or that they've been cleared from having them with health tests or anything. It worries me because it made it sound like they think genetic problems in these breeds are unavoidable, not something that can be prevented by careful breeding.

Because their website makes no mention of the health of previous litters, fates of any offspring, they make no mention of tests they've had done to confirm the health of their breeding dogs, and their health guarantee doesn't actually cover genetic defects (which can take years to present symptoms) I don't think it sounds like a quality breeder.

They might be the nicest people in the world, they might truly love their dogs and any puppies they produce and work very hard to find home for them, but from the information on their website they sound like a backyard breeder. Your dog seems healthy, and they might be producing healthy pups, but it doesn't sound like they're a quality breeder from the website.
