LOL,
Well they are very owner specific dogs. My dog will make a gutteral sound if anyone comes near him when he has a toy or a bone, or is eating that isn't me. He will also give the ole Elvis lip showing his canines on one side as a final warning if the growl does not work. Which always amazes me as the growl he puts out in no way sounds friendly it sounds evil and because of his size people tend to think he isn't going to snap.

If he approaches you its a different story. He will walk close enough for affection, stop, drop and roll, giving up the belly for petting. In this case, you don't pet he growls. you stop petting he growls. SO i am torn i think its in their nature but i also think its bratty!!

My peke Lola used to do that as a puppy. I laid her on her back, glared, and gave her a firm "No." She stopped doing it since that. unfortunately, she still escapes to chase cats and squirrels when there's an opportunity which scares me to death no matter how much I scold. i have a feeling she laughs at me when I chase after her. Pekes are brats indeed.

My human can tell you that I never do that. I love everybody. The only time I get upset is when someone wakes me up and I growl to tell them to leave me alone, I want to keep sleeping. My human just laughs at me and calls me grumpy. My human said that her previous babies were not as good as I am. MeiKei was really bad and growled and showed her teeth often. She stopped doing that after she lost her eyesight. I prefer to love on everybody and dance for them so they will rub my belly and give me treats. snoopy

So far Zelda has never done anything like that. She'll bark at other people and our other dog, but if my husband or I need to step in, she'll step back. I'm kind of surprised, really because she is so bossy otherwise!

I have had several Pekes, the first when I was in grade school. She definitely showed her teeth but I think that was because my sister & I were teasing her. Pekes are not a dog for children. I've had others that would show their teeth when you come near their food or especially when they had a chew bone, etc. I now have Kinsey, a rescue that is very different than any others I've had. She had been mistreated badly by kids. She used to "stalk" my grandson when he was on my bed (literally). I worked with a professional trainer because getting rid of her was not an option, she had to learn to be around my grandson. It worked! She would show her teeth when she had food (she's always starving, she thinks). I listen & learn from Cesar & his methods have worked very well with her. Now I just ignore her & take something away from her with no problem if she shouldn't have it (except the chicken bone she got ahold of). That one, she swallowed whole before I could get ahold of it & I had to take her to the vet to have her vomit it up before it went down too far. That was an expensive piece of chicken. Pekes are definitely brats!!

Oh no, we never show our teeth! If we did, mama and daddy would yell and put us in our crate. That behavior is unacceptable in our house! We have a big family and share everything.

I think it's important to stop bad behavior in the beginning stages & showing teeth should not be allowed unless it's a smilesmile
