 | | | | Of course as dog owners we want to provide the best for our companions. I'm sure like me many of you who are reading this have read the numerous "reviews" of dog foods attempting to solve the question of what is the best food I can give. I'm sure you've heard names like Inova, Eagle Pack, Timberwolf, etc. Many of these foods are good in comparison to the Pedigrees and Eukanubas out there; however let’s not forget what these companies aim to accomplish. As best they can with dry food they aim to provide a highly nutritional dog food of protein, vitamins, veggies, and fruits.... OK now this is only for those who want to read this...
There is a better alternative to accomplishing this goal of providing a diet similar to what their ancestors (wolves) would eat. It's RAW diet. Stop going to your Petsmarts and Petcos and google your local feed store that emphasizes nutrition. You will feel more secure in your decisions when working with professionals, not high schoolers who hate their jobs! There are a variety of Raw diets out there, try new things and see what works best for you.
I personally use Nature's Variety medallions (switching between Raw Chicken, Beef, Venison, Lamb, Rabbit, and Free Range Chicken), Honest Kitchen, and Raw Food that I cook with like Chicken, Steak, even Salmon! I also combine scraps of food like broccoli stems, carrots, potatoes, celery, etc., and raw bones, YES, even chicken bones! Her favorites have to be the Beef Marrow bones.... Just to give you an example. I feed her chopped chicken thighs (bones and all), raw eggs(shells and all), potatoes, and some carrots. It’s like cooking for yourself without the actual cooking part.
The great thing about raw diet is....
Stool is small and less frequent because there is less waste (grains, sugars, flours, Corn, Mill). Less stinky and loose stool too! Oh yea- Less gas!!!
People say it’s EXPESIVE; however you're feeding your dog much less then what you would be feeding in dry grainy foods. I'm a starving college student and I can still afford to feed my dog the best!
Multiple studies have shown that raw diets decrease common diseases like hip displaysia, CANCERS, allergies, rashes, mites, etc. Look, there is definitely evidence out there that will show you Raw Diets are the supreme best you can give your dog!
These are just my ideas on Raw Diet. It isn't an attempt to tell you what to do with your dog and nutritional decisions. I just want to throw the option out there because I was very skeptical of the whole Raw Diet idea prior to actually talking with professionals and then seeing the results for myself. I really think it’s quite easy to see but if you don't believe, fine, no need to argue. If anyone has any questions I'd be glad to help though! | | | | |
