My name is Scout and I am a 3.5 y.o. St. Poodle. My mom is looking for info from other St. Poodles regarding some funky hair changes in my coat...have seen vets (both reg. and holistic) I am a black standard but have White hairs (different texture, no pigment) which have progressively spread throughout my coat. Anyone else experiencing this phenom?

I'm Chocolate and the breeder told my mom that black and chocolate poodles gray very early in life.

My Penny is not even a year old and I have also notices all these random white/gray hairs. I Heard that most gray poodles start out black.

Sorry, crashing the party you cutie gals! Anyway, both Blues and Silvers start out blank and lighten with age. You could be seeing guard hairs that tell you that your dog is not a true black, but either a blue, a bad black, a silver or a bad silver.

I, too, am black, and even that I'm only 8 months old and no stress (except for an ear infection at the moment) I already have some white hairs! My mommy found a very helpful website when she was looking for the different hair cuts) about Poodles, and among other things it talks about the different colors we come in, and that it's quite usual for the blue and black Poodles to have some white hairs here and there.
Here is the link to it: http://arpeggiopoodles.tripod.com/poodlecoatcolorsblueandblack.html

I found that same website some time ago too it's very helpful. It sounds like all of the younger poodles with color changes are going through their coat change which is the last big step in adolescence for a poodle. The process takes months and our curly coats can get terribly painfully matted during the process because our adult coat is growing in through our puppy coats. At this stage in our teenage years our final color starts to really appear and it brings our adult color with it. I'm almost a year old and I've just started my coat change. I've been called cafe latte but I'm starting to turn a more silver beige.
