Our mini schnauzer, Sebatian has tiny little black bumps on his back.
He has had a couple trips to the vet, special shampoo & rinse - couple rounds of antibiotics & steroid pills, new food Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venision (that is all he eats) bumps were almost gone and now are coming back in just a few spots still on his back - is this "Schnauzer Skin" - any ideas?

Haven't I read this before? Its a common problem amoung schnauzers, i have a few. If the vet gave you specific I'd keep going with that. It might take a white to work. I've started adding Pro Pet's Skin and Coat to the food, just to make sure he is getting extra stuffs in. But by no means does this stuff fix the problem. Especially not on its own. How often do you bathe him in the vet shampoo?

Hi Dudley,
Thanks so much for your response. I get a bath in the special shampoo every 3-4 days - this has been going on for a while. My bumps seem to go away after my bath but come back before my next trip to the tub. I think when I get groomed this week Mom is going to get my back trimmed a bit shorter to see if that helps....
Would love to know more about what gets put in your food.

A hair cut is not a bad idea, although it wont help much. I have four black spots, I've had em for as long as mom's had me and even before when my last mom said they were scars. I do wish you the best of luck though, If we find a solution we will let you know.

It is just that "Schnauzer Skin" My last Schanuzer, Fritz, had that. Our vet said it was nothing to worry about, just one of their "things".snoopy

Everyone is correct in it's just schnauzer skin. I have some too and I itch terribly. My vet put me on the expensive prescription dog food and shampoo but nothing was working. So I went to a different vet and she said if it's not working, there's no reason to keep eating that food. She put me on a medicine called Atopica and it is wonderful. My bumps went away and I quit itching. Now I just eat regular food. If your dog is having troubles like me, you should ask your vet about Atopica.

Have you tried Pyoben shampoo? That's what we use and it seems to really work.

Hi! My Mom got me allergy tested because nothing helped me stop scratching, or having little bump outbreaks. And it turns out that I am allergic to almost everything, but I get allergy shots now and I feel much better, I still have bad days, but I am always manageable with some benadryl, and I stay on one kind of food, Science Diet, Prescription Diet z/d ULTRA Allergen-Free. I really like it too!
