I just got my OFA test results back. My dog passed OFA hips, elbows, patellas and norwegian elkhound kidneys. His only sibling sister passed all the above with OFA excellent hips.

Having purchased 8 dogs who failed OFA, I was reluctant to start showing anything until they reached two and passed OFA before wasting any money on them. Now i can show both in conformation and advanced obedience (meaning he's sound to jump)

Smooth sailing ahead.

My other (current) dog failed her OFA's and although she was spayed at the time, the OFA results affected the way I would use her.

Because of this, she is now 7 and has never taken a lame step. It's just good stuff to know, as well as valuable information to the breeder. Her breeder spayed and neutered her parents when her entire litter turned up dysplastic. So knowing your soundness status is good for the owner, even if breeding isn't in the future, and it's good for the breeder in that they learn, and don't continue breeding mistakes.

Thank you fo rthis info!! And glad your tests came up good. There is no known dysplasia among the two parent dogs of Scouty (who have tested neg on everything), nor any dogs from their litters. However, I have been thinking about getting testing done, because I am preparing to possibly get a full brother of hers to add to our family.

I have purchased dogs with 7 full generations of OFA on all sides and they still came up dysplastic.

Each dog should be tested on it's own merits, because dysplasia is polygenetic in nature
