Hello!! Thank you for welcoming me into your group. I am very excited to be here and see so many beautiful Elkies.

My name is Zoe, I am a mix, my mom was a prue bred Elkhound and my dad was a pure bred Chow.....and because of a mistake I was born. My other sisters and one brother were all rescued and taken to loving homes. Sadly none of my siblings are near me but I sure hope to meet new friends here.....if no one minds that I am red instead of grey.

My mom loves learning new things about Elkies, we sure are one special breed. I must admit I do many things that make my mom scratch her head and wonder if anyone elses dog does the things I do. Plus I have a few problems, I had a bad run in with a dog that was loose and didn't like me and I got hurt. I have some lasting issues after that awful encounter and having a stubborn streak I am not the easiest to set straight again. Other than that I am a total cuddlebug and look forward to meeting new and interesting friends.

Let the jouney begin........sorta like a walk in a really big park....did I mention I love walks.......this should be so much fun!!

Doggy kisses,
Zoe

Zoe,
Welcome!! I am kinda new here too, and I think you are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scouty is a very submissive dog (she was the runt, and this can be common among runts), and she was attacked by an aggressive dog at a park when she was about 18 months old (she is 2 and a half now). The dog had her on the ground by her neck, on her back. It was a horrible experience, and I have never gone back to that particular park, and never will.

For a few months after that, we would be walking through the neighborhood, and she would get startled very easily. She would crouch down and tremble when approached by another dog.

I found a park that was less populated, and the people that bring their dogs there seem to have socialized their dogs well. In time, Scouty has leanred how to be at ease again around other dogs. I have watched her play more vigorously over time, and enjoy herself without being frightened. She will still crouch down when the play gets TOO rough, but she will show a tooth and yip at another dog now when she has had enough, and I am proud of where she has come with it. In fact, if you look at my Video Album, there is a short clip of her being a little bit on the "submissive" side with a dog at the park. But she holds her own now, and is not mean in any way.

So keep getting your dog out despite the past. Be firm, but encourage socialization. With time, it can and will get better if you always remember that YOU are in charge.

Looking forward to being friends with you!!
