wolfing down food

Maggie has always been a "hungry' dog - she doesn't resist a treat, snack, meal, whatever's in your hand.....but lately she's wolfing down her food and I'm worried because she inhales it, chokes on it, coughs it up, eats it again, and the process continues until the food is gone.

She was diagnosed in November with melanoma (stage 2) so she's finished her radiation therapy and has had her 3rd chemo/vaccine shot, so I wonder how much that has to do with it. The tumor was in her mouth (scotties are prone to cancer) so the oncologist said she could be avoiding chewing because her teeth hurt...but she happily eats anything she can.

Does anyone else have a scottie that eats too fast - and what do you do? I changed her bowl from an open one to a more narrow one but the results are the same.
