YEAH they are! Farmers in California are apparently catching on to how fantastic Kelpies are at herding (except my dog, apparently). My dog was a stray in rural northern California that we believe was let go from a farm after it became apparent that he does NOT herd.

In any case, he is the most fantastic dog ever, and I think Kelpies are the best! Who couldn't love those Kelpie ears?

Hi Cal, Pennie went sheep herding once and she loved it. But she kept nipping at their feet! We came home with a mouth full of wool. Too bad I don't knit.

While we were living in Calaveras County we got two chicks and a duck. It was so cold outside and they were really young so we kept them in our house. We started out by laying newspapers down for them; our Kelpie layed on her belly, put her face close to the ground, and would nip at the air behind their legs to keep them on it! We figured it had to be the herder in her!

Im not sure Bo is kelpie, he just looks like one, and behaves like one...I think. Could anyone look at my pics and tell me if you think he is mixed with kelpie?

When I first heard the dog we were going to adopt was a Kelpie I had no idea what to expect. She was purchased by her original owner as a cattle dog but didn't take to the cattle at all. She has no problems with children, cats, rabbits or horses though. LOL! She is my son's new 4-H project and catches on rather quickly. We are in Southern Minnesota. Not too many around here that I know of.
