Are any of you out there a therapy dog? Or a nursing home visit dog? My Mommy is thinking about getting me involved in something like that. She says I'm sooooo sweet, and would like to take me for visits to make sick, hurt or sad people smile. I'm okay with that. It would be fun. And, I'd get to go for more rides in the car!! dancing

If anyone knows anything about it, please post! Mommy's not sure where or how to get started? Do I need to be certified as CGC first?

I'm a therapy dog. I not pretty sure, but I think that you may or may not have to pass the CGC test to become a therapy dog. My mom just has to be pretty sure so she made me go through the CGC exam just in case it's required (and I passed). But mom really thinks it's required because the CGC exam tests a dog's nature and how well the dog's controlled in certain situations........so maybe it is required; I mean you can't have a therapy dog that jumps on old people....that's what
happened to my mom's cousin's dog who was a therapy dog (he was a husky). So me and my mom strongly think the CGC exam is required so if you mommy wants you to be a therapy dog that is the first thing you look at. Good Luck if your going to take the exam!!!way to go

My human, Cheryl, is thinking of talking my other human into training me to be a therapy dog. I'm sweet and gentle and like humans. John likes to talk (and talk and talk). So I can make people happy with dog love while he gets to talk to them! No more lonlies!

Keep in mind that being a therapy dog takes a lot of time and effort. Once your dog is certified you basically act as its agent and call hospitals and such to make a schedule, which can be very time consuming. They also must be bathed before every visit.

John is retired - he really needs to get a hobby & get out of the house so I can have some peace! Seriously, he does love to interact with people and to show off his beautiful dog, who also likes people, which is why training her as a therapy dog seemed to me to be a perfect fit for them.
