It is always a good idea to volunteer at your local shelter because it can be so rewarding bringing dogs for their walks, feeding them, playing with them and treating them like any dog should be treated. Sadly, there are never enough volunteers to help out in the shelters so maybe you might consider volunteering? It is so rewarding...but sometimes there are the poor dogs that are walked and cared for but are not adopted. It is a sad world for these dogs so give them love and care even for their short life in the shelter/pound.

I rescue and I volunteer. Aside from running our own sanctuary I am starting at a shelter this week.
Shelter work is not new to me. I told them I could do whatever they wanted. I truly love working with the animals but sometimes we just need to scoop poop.
I agree that volunteering at a Shelter is so rewarding. If you have never done that I highly recommend that you try it. A whole new world will open up for both you and the animals at the Shelter.
