If you find any other pups out there with TCC, please invite them to join us.
I succumbed to this sucky disease two years ago on the 8th, but Mom remembers it like it was yesterday. Any questions or concerns you have, please feel free to ask. That is what this group is all about!

| Barked: Wed Aug 22, '07 5:06am PST | | | | | | I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in early September of 2004. They first diagnosed me as having a urinary tract infection, but it wouldn't go away. An initial X-Ray of my vet showed something in the bladder, which he suspected was TCC. In the next day or so I went to see an oncologist.
The Oncologist did a sonogram and the tumor was right at the opening or the urethra. They couldn't operate because of its location. I started piroxicam and chemo. The chemo wasn't working, so they changed it another form (carboplatnium) and I stayed on piroxicam.
Needless to say none of the chemo was working, but the peroxicam seemed to be doing the trick. In January they stopped the chemo treatment and gave me about 3 to 6 months.
I hung in there and was relatively healthy. I had good days and bad days. Around Easter I went downhill fast and Mom & Dad took me to visit Dad's parents to say good-bye. Miraculously while while waiting the car while they were at Grandad's assisted living place I came around and the next thing you know I was on a walk saying hi the residents. Mom always said I was a cat with 9 lives!
The last week in July I started no really being myself, then on a Friday night when Mom & Dad came home from work I was limping. Mom called the onocolgist and of course only the night techs were there. They told Mom that I probably just hurt myself. Mom was worried the cancer had spread, but the tech said bladder cancer wouldn't spread to the bone. Needless to say the weekend was rough and on Monday Mom took me to the regular vet for an X-Ray. We had to wait 3 hours because they were so busy. I just laid next to Mom and she petted me. It was the best 3 hours of her life.
Needless to say, the cancer DID spread to the bone in my back leg. Early the next morning Mom took my X-Rays to the Oncologist, then later that morning Dad took me it. This was August 8, 2006. Just about 1 month short of a year after I started chemo. Mom knew the night before it was time. I let her know.
Mom has had to let 3 of us go to different forms of cancer. Myself and my brother Woodie within 14 months of each other. It is never easy to say good-bye, but Dobsey will let you know when the time has come.
Enjoy your time together. Life is so precious.

I passed away almost 7 months ago from TCC. Mine was a result of suppressing my immune system for 6 months to fight IMHA when I was 8yrs old. I had T cells in my system, a growth was removed the year before from my jaw, and during my last weeks, I had bone cancer returning in my jaw also.
So glad you were able to have your tumor removed Fred, I was not that lucky. Chemo held it from growing for 3 months, but with my immune issues, and mutating Ecoli bacteria, I just could not keep fighting it off everything.

Hi Cherokee! I'm sorry you had this nasty disease, but we're glad to have you as part of our group!

| Barked: Mon Feb 4, '08 6:57pm PST | | | | | | I was diagnosed with TCC just before Thanksgiving. My mom and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was seeing a specialist for a bladder infection that wasn't clearing up, and my mom had just left me for chest x-rays, thinking this was just a precaution that had little to do with my symptoms. When the doctors found cancer nodules in my lungs, Mom agreed to a cystoscopy, where TCC was found in my bladder and all along my urethra.
The procedure was so painful, it took me weeks to recover. Mommy consulted with an oncologist as well as my local doctor. After a lot of soul searching, my moms decided that we'd all be better off making the most of every day, than spending hours away from each other pursuing chemo, which offered only a slim chance at a response.
And so, Mommy's been cooking for me and taking me to work with her, and we got to take more walks and play more than usual..until I pulled my crusciate ligament when doing my pee-squat. Now we can't play much, which makes me sad.
Still, I'm not ready to leave yet! I want my knee to get better so I can play again before I have to leave this world, especially now that I have joined Dogster!
