Jake started limping last week. The vet said he most likely has a luxating patella. We are planning on having some x-rays taken when he is neutered, to assess the situation.

I want him to have the best life he can. He loves to run, and I don't want him to develop premature arthritis.

Does anyone know anything about this? Or have a story to share? I am devastated and don't know what to do. I am worried that the vet may be trigger happy when it comes to surgery, but also don't want to avoid a procedure that will make Jake more comfortable for years to come.

Thanks for listening.

I know of some pugs that have had that problem and have had surgery. Over in FLOP - For the Love of Pug... Java Cheesybritches has surgery on one. If you haven't checked over there yet....go over and ask..someone will help direct you.

oh wow I was just noticed Puggles doing the same thing. Nothing has changed and he doesn't do it all the time. But I'm worried that there is a problem too. He is almost stiff when he gets up. But when he is playing he doesn't limp at all. He doesn't cry or anything like that, I hope your baby is better soon. We are taking puggles to the vets next week to see if he can be fixed... Why its called that I don't know becasue he doesn't think he's broken lol
let me know how your puggles is doing

You can also email Hercules over at Pugapalooza--- he's an admin so all you have to do is click on his picture-- he has had pretty bad luxating patella with both his knee's and required surgery but there are different stages of the problem.... his momma can help you with that!!
