Does anyone take their sighthounds to dog parks? Any problems with trying to "hunt" down other dogs? My brother Finlay chases them down and stomps on them. Any advice?

My mom says I have that same habit except without the stomping.
My read what you posted and did a little research. She found out
that is common for some sighthounds to "hunt" down anything that moves or give chase to it's quarry. I think if you see Finlay trying to chase down a dog, give him a stern "No!" Or if he's on a leash and you see that he's about to "hunt" a dog, give his collar a little tug and say "heel" or "no hunting!!" That's all the advice I have and sorry if it's not enough..............Oh, and about the stomping thing, take care that Finlay doesn't accidently stomp on any small dogs for it might
cause an injury......your quite welcome for the advice and good luck.way to go

Ulla went to a dog park...once. But she didn't enjoy it, so I didn't force her to stay. frown She was afraid of all the boisterous dogs, and tried to leave by putting her paws up on the relatively short, flimsy fence, which actually bent down. She easily could have escaped. Fortunately I was right there with her leash and she came to me. Not a pleasant experience, but at least we gave it a shot...she's just not the type for that, I guess.shrug I can sort of understand. I'm not the most social person either.

Upon my 1st visit to the dog park I began pulling and tugging at the first sight of the other dogs (which made it hard to cross the road). However, I always do this when I want to go see something. When we got there and in the gate mum let me off (with a muzzle, its law herefrown ). I ran all the way up the far corner and joined a group of dogs playing. I spent the whole time bolting from one group of dogs to another. I loved it! However, i do understand your concern. Greys may not only 'hunt' other dogs (which I doubt you're doing as I've not heard of any biting) but an ex-racer can also nip/attack other dogs it is running with in competitive spirit. Perhaps he was playing then had trouble stopping, I do that alot (causes grazes). Hope this could help!smile
