Hi, My name is Merlin. I came from a puppymill. I was bought at auction in a big lot of pups to be breeding stock. It didn't take long for the miller to realize I was too big to be a daddy. Millers breeding small dogs like little males (to make those "teacup" puppies) and big females (to make big litters).

I got very lucky. The miller turned me over to rescue and my mommy adopted me.

Butterscotch, if Daisy came from a pet store, I 100% garantee she is a puppymill dog.

Because my mommy loves me so much, she wanted to be sure that other dogs like me had a chance, so now she works with the rescue I came from. She pulls dogs from shelters, transports, fosters, screens applications and basically does what she can to help.

I'm one of the luck ones. I have a foster brother named Kaluha, but I'll let him tell his own story.

Hi, I'm Kaluha. I am a puppy mill refuge and I am up for adoption.

I came from a puppymill near Lancaster, PA. When I came to my foster mommy and daddy's home, I was a really sad little dog. My hair was brittle and falling out by the handful. My teeth were so bad that my breath smelled like rotting flesh. The vet said some of my teeth were only being held in by tarter. My mouth hust so badly, I could not eat out of a bowl.

I was afraid of everyone and everything. I still won't take food from anyones hand because that is how miller lure a dog close enough to grab them.

I have spent ten years in a cage, breeding those cute puppies for pet stores. My back was bent and my toenails overgrown. I have a slight heart mummer.

I have changed a lot in the past few months. I still don't like my FM, but I adore my foster daddy. He is the best. He lets me lay on the couch with him and feeds me oatmeal and hamburgers and ice cream. I am learning to walk on a lead. I have learned about something called potty training and I try not to go in the house.

It's so nice to live someplace that is not freezing in the winter or sweltering in the summer. It's nice to have grass and floors under my feet instead of wire. it's nice to have enough good food to fill my tummy.

Somet imes, I would not know it, because Kaluha exibits so many of those traits that are common in puppy mill survivors, but I know he is much happier here in foster care than he ever has been before.

I'm pretty sure I did. Someone named Jeanne Burkett. I think she runs a puppy mill because she sold me to some people who were planning to breed me. I'm not show quality, much less breeding quality! What good breeder would sell a non-show puppy to someone who wants to breed just to make money? I have much better owners now.
