Hi everyone!
I wanted to ask all mini pin moms & dads a question. My baby champ is a very ... let me reitereate VERY ... active little guy that wants to eat everything in sight...except when it comes to his own food. The breeder I got him from was feeding him Eukenuba ... but he has since gotten bored with it ... a nice lady at PetSmart suggested Nutro ... which he enjoyed..but once again got bored with. Champ is much skinner than his other mini pin friends ... and I desperately want to get him to gain some weight. His vet says that champ is a healthy pup ... but that he is under weight. He's only 8.6 lbs.

So, any suggestions about food would be greatly appreciated.

My dogs get Benefull, puppy for Diesel and healthy radiance for Tara (helps w/ her dry skin from the beach!) Tara also gets an egg once or twice a month...which she LOVES to play with and eat (raw) and its improved her coat so much, she has no flakes and is sooo soft now. My parents own a farm and have chickens and their blue heeler taught Tara to steal the eggs from the chickens...so thats how that started. Dont give them too many tho cuz theyll get fat and its bad for their little tiny hearts!
Also, when I first brought Tara home she wouldnt eat ANYTHING .... our vet had her on frozen Bill Jack which she LOVED and hasnt had any eatting problems since and it smelledlike oatmeal sort of unlike alot of dog foods that stink and it made her poop less stinky, which was great while potty training her! LOL The only bad thing about it is it has to stay cold....
You might also wanna try mixing chicken, turkery, hamburger, etc in with his crunchies...although if he's like Tara he'll pick it out. She likes to eat certain things and leave the rest, like she'll eat the red and green pieces of food and leave the brown. Diesel tho eats EVERYTHING in front of him lol he is growing so fast!!!
Hoped that helped some!

I feed lucy, kibbles & bits "mini bits". its for small days & puppies. I also put a tiny bit of water in it as well to soften. eukenuba too, but she won't eat if its not soft.
just a bit of advice from a NY min Pin.

i would suggest trying PRAIRE, which is made by Nature's Variety. its a wonderful food. my dog LOVES it. its one of the best foods on the market. no corn, no by-products. they make their food for rotational feeding, so your dog wont get bored. you can either switch between the meat protiens, use it with wet, and even their raw diets. or all of them. hope this works!

I don't know if your Champ is actually underweight; MinPins get fat very easily and it's not good for them! My vet recommends 1/3 cup of dry food a day for mine. Brooke Lynn is 4 lbs and Teeny Emme is 9 lbs and the vet considers Brooke Lynn just right and Teeny Emme overweight!! I switch back and forth between NutroMax and Iams and sometimes mix in some chicken breast cut in tiny pieces. Mine also LOVE tomatos and most veggies and the vet says that's great for them too (especially green beans). For treats, I feed the small Milk Bones with the chewy stuff inside (they won't eat a regular Milk Bone - too yucky and dry!) Also, I think if your Champ is hungry enough, he WILL eat his kibbles. I make a big deal out of feeding ~ "it's breakfast girls; ready for your kibbles?!" and they get all excited about it. Must say, they didn't used to, not when I switched over from Little Ceasers wet (bad for dogs) to dry kibbles! But once they got hungry, had GOOD kibbles (Nutro & Iams, also Blue is good), they chow down! Hope this helps.
