I call my dad my Poppy, and he is special in many ways. He works hard so that I can have treats and dog food. And when he comes home from work, one of the first things he does is shake my paw. That is because I am SO happy to see him. I dance around in front of him and bark and “talk” with excitement and then I run and get a toy. Even if he is tired and carrying a heavy briefcase, he sets it down and plays tug of war with me!
Then, after he has had his supper (and maybe shared a “smidgen” of it with me), he’ll put me in his big chair with him. I know to settle down then, and I put my head on his knee and we watch TV together. (Well, actually, the only time I watch is if I hear a dog bark! Usually I take a little nap then.) When it is time for sleeping, he will sometimes give me my vitamin and one last treat for the day. (Mom likes to be the one to give me my vitamin most of the time, though.) When we go to visit my grandmommy, my Poppy keeps me with him most of the time because Grandmommy has a MEAN cat. I guess he doesn’t want me to attack and hurt that cat, right??? I like to sit in his lap and guard him from that mean cat. He also takes me for walks. Sometimes he takes me to the groomers, and he NEVER lets those groomers put sissy bows on me!! Even though he says he doesn’t like dog clothes, he did buy me a Harley cap once. I think my Poppy is the best poppy in the whole, wide world. I may even share some of my treats with him on Father’s Day. That is a BIG sacrifice for me, but I will do it for Poppy!! Maybe!!
