I have tried and tried to desensitize Frank to my leaving, and nothing works. No matter how little or how long I leave him, he will sit and bark for hours on end. Crated is a little better, it keeps him confined and therefore calmer. But I cannot leave him home when I go out. I keep a dog crate in my car for when I run errands, and he day boards while I go to work.
Does anyone else have experience breaking their foxie of excessive anxious barking? I in no way coddle Frank, but even when I'm home, he rarely leaves my side.

Sara had a problem with separation anxiety when I went away to college. Well...she got depressed that year I was gone, so the following year I brought her out with me. And that's when she had the separation anxiety.
My boyfriend and I had to do a couple things to get Sara to be okay when we were gone. First we were sure to leave a shirt of each of ours on the bed so she could smell us and that seemed to calm her a bit. Then I would put on a movie or episode of some show on my computer....and put it on loop. So it would play all day long. Being able to have sounds seems to help. She doesn't do well when the house is silent. But Sara's an older pup....she'll be 16 July 1st.....so these methods may soothe her just because she'd older and not so energetic anymore.
Either way, I hope you find something to help ya!
