| Barked: Mon Apr 9, '07 10:29pm PST | | | | | | I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good vets in the Raleigh area? I have been through 3 so far since adopting Indy and haven't found one I really like yet.
I started off at Banfield in Cary, and that was okay for the first few visits, but after getting their membership plans shoved down my throat every visit, I had enough.
I moved to Raleigh shortly after that, and switched to the Dixie Trail Animal Clinc since it's right up the street. They were of course friendly, but Indy started shaking as soon as we came in(something he has never done), and I just did not trust them.
My latest experience was a recommendation from a co-worker for the Glenwood Animal Hospital. They were really nice, professional, but the vet didn't know/understand what a grain-free food is(Indy is on Nature's Variety Raw Instinct). They are also quite expensive. I probably won't be going back.
So anyone have any suggestions? I just haven't been that impressed with the vets I've tried so far. We're all ears

The staff there is great and their prices are VERY reasonable from my experience. The thing I like best about them is they ask and answer lots of questions, and they get down on the floor to pet and talk to your dog. Dr. Jon Dick (who's GREAT) owns the practice, and he has two newer vets who went to N.C. State. There's not a lot of staff turnover, which is good. The techs and assistants always remember Mingus when he goes for treatment or boarding and are very sweet to him.
Before Magnolia, I went to Hayes-Barton AH. They were also very good, but more expensive, and sometimes seemed to recommend expensive treatment. The staff there was always kind and helpful, but I didn't get as friendly and open a feeling from the drs. as at Magnolia. But I would still recommend them.
As far as nutrition goes, I have YET to find a vet that really seems expert in the field. I think it's just not a huge part of their training.

Sorry, it took so long to respond...I never remember to look up at the top....
Brentwood Animal Hospital
-- 872-6060 near the corner of Atlantic Avenue and New Hope Church Road--
We've gone to them for over 10 ten years through 4 dogs and 5 cats including: behavior problems, heartworm treatment(for newly adopted dog), several lump removals, treatment and boarding after a fire at our home, knee surgery, the death of one of our dogs from a spinal tumor.
Dr. Steve (His last name is Nuenswander(sp?) so everybody just calls him Dr. Steve) is fairly conservative in treatment but also isn't afraid to investigate new things. He didn't get insulted when we went to the NCSU vet school about the problems that lead to the discovery of the spinal tumor, and worked with the vet school to discover what the problem was and to work with us on treatment. However, if we had listened to him from the beginning we would have saved ourselves several thousand dollars.
Two of the techs have been there the whole time and everyone we've dealt with has been pleasant and professional. We've been told they are among the most affordable vets in the city.
The best recommendation of all: our boxer-bulldog who went there for heartworm treatment, several lumpectamies, and the spinal tumor was eager to enter the office up to the very last time he went.
I never miss a chance to recommend them.

He's a integrative vet (does holistic and conventional) and mommy took me to him for the first time a few weeks ago. We had been going to Banfield where I had their wellness plan, but mommy wasn't all that impressed with the doctors. We loved Dr. Lapham though. I saw that you like grain free food, thats why we thought you might like more holistic medicine too.
Oh, yeah, Hidden Valley is at the corner of Lynn Road and Creedmoor.

| Barked: Wed Dec 19, '07 6:19pm PST | | | | | | We go to Dixie Trail AH... and have never had any bad experiences what so ever. We see Dr. Perrow, and she's given us the utmost care and concern - which I find very important - she helped us diagnose and find treatment for Scotty and his diabetes. It can be a little intimidating though with that big Iguana cage in the waiting room - but dogs can sense things that are different (be it attitude from mom/dad, or environment) but it's always good to visit the vets when you don't have to go for sticky-pokies, or proddies.
