15 yrs on average. But it really depends on how healthy and active your dog is.

That is so good to hear!!! It seems that everywhere I look there are different numbers so I wanted to go straight to the source and ask AB owners. The one website said 8-11 years and I felt faint! Rubin is already 5!!!Ten more years with him is a lot better than 3! Thanks! You made my day!!

No problem ;-) AB's are pretty hardy dogs, and I wouldn't be surprised if Rubin lived to be 20. 15 yrs is on average, but with regular exercise, care, and a good diet then 20 years would not be surprising.

Anyone have or ever had an AB with a heart murmur. Bella's is rated 2/5 and our vet recommended we stop her long walks everyday, until we get to a Cardiologist...(who is several hours away)! Since doing so Bella is so pent up with energy. We let her around in the backyard, but she just wants to hit the trail for a run or walk. Anyone take their vets advice regarding this. Lack of exercise for an AB seems to be more harm than good in any situation. Am I wrong???

I have never heard of this. Actually this is the first. I would take it easy on him, at least until you get to a cardiologist. He could have just been nervous at the vets and his heart went off a little? I'm no expert, but I would have it checked out. You don't want your boy to have a heart attack on a walk!
