The only herding I do is to try and herd my sister and my Mom when we are out for a walk. It sounds like lots of fun though. Where do you go to do it?

I tried herding when I was lots younger and I was really good at it,too....but since I was born deaf mama and our trainer couldn't make me STOPbig laugh
And deaf dogs can't compete in herding, so we stopped going.
It is great fun,though...just ask my Aussie sistersbig grin

Mom and I herd in Canada a lot, because we have a great teacher there. We also go to Packleader Farm in Gig Harbor, and sometimes to Fidos Farm near Olympia. My brother Angus practices at On the Lamb Farm in Arlington. I don't know about places in western Oregon to herd, but you could probably check with your local club. Brigands might be close enough, there is a link on this forum page.

I used to be a professional cattle herder in the Tri-Valley but then I got hurt by a steer and now I work as a SD - much better wink
The SD work is very different from the herding, but at least as challenging and fun. When I see cows now, I usually look into the other direction and walk right by.

Last year we run into a situation where somebody needed us to get his cow back. It broke out of the paddock. Mom offered her help. The cowboy got injured by the cow - it squeezed him into the gate really hard - stupid cows, telling you.. We followed the cowboy's lead/commands and I have to say, we did some pretty cool moves and brought the cow back safely. Mom was pretty impressed and told me later we looked like monsters. Our faces were so different and serious. The cowboy was really happy and we got some good chewy Jerky! Jojo did well, she learned on the spot - but nobody can beat me wink
Glad I am retired, though..
