Woof fellow Bronx Babies. This is my first official Monday Morning Meeting (M3 of B3) message.

First you might be asking "What's with the M3 and B3 stuff?" Well, while I was trying to figure out a name for our group, Mommy was watching Charmed and if you watch it too, you know that Piper's club was called P3 for the three sisters, Piper, Prue and Pheobe. Sigh...my Mommy LOVES Charmed She says her personality is most like Piper: organized, in charge, no-nonsense, mothering and believing in one true love. Anyway, I thought B3 would be a good name for us: it's short (everything has to be abbreviated these days) and it fits us - we are Beautiful, we are from the Bronx and we are babies, furbabies!

Ok, back to the agenda. First me and my sister Poochie would like to welcome everyone to the group. We would especially like to welcome Charlie and Riley who are our first cats to join the group - we do not discriminate. All furbabies are important!!!

I, Benoni (but just call me Benny), am the adminstrator of the group. My sister, Poochie, is co-administator and is in charge of all activities at Rainbow Bridge since that's where she lives now.

The second issue is recruitment. When Mommy did a search of all dog breeds in the Bronx, she found that only 228 of the hundreds of thousands of Dogster members were from the Bronx. As such a small group we should really stick together. We have issues that are particular to the Bronx, important stuff beyond just living in the home of the Yankees.

So far Mommy invited about half of those doggies to be pals and join the group. In the past weekend, we made OVER 30 NEW PALS! Mommy is planning to invite the rest but the computer lost her saved stroll so she has to start from scratch (for the 3rd time) so it could take awhile.

Poochie and I would like to encourage you to invite all your friends, both living on Earth and those living at the Bridge, who live in or just care about the Bronx, to join us.

We think that Riley and Charlie should be in charge of cat issues such as recruitment since they are the first feline members of B3 - Meow to you two. We would be honored if you would accept the position.

The third issue is what the group is all about. We would like to have both a fun and a serious side to this group. The fun side is just to make friends, get to know each other and be pals. Maybe people would even like to meet and make play dates. That's up to you guys. The serious side is to talk (and get active) about issues that are important to all animals but especially Bronx Babies.

For instance, did you know that there are politicians trying to get bills passed to make owning Pit Bulls illegal in NYC?? This is terrible. Pits are being scapegoated. I know Pit Bulls who are big mushy babies. We all know it's how our Mommies and Daddies raise us that's important, not what breed we are.

Did you know that the majority of dogs in shelters are Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes? People just breed them (and for a lot of bad reasons) and then abandon the babies. That means that more Pit Bulls get euthanized (a much too kind term) than any other breed. It's so important to spay and neuter (I know, I know, I didn't like having my doodles cut off but...) and educate and protest. Maybe we could get active about that.

Or did you know about a program called Project Whoopee Humane Society-Animals Need Educated Humans (ANEH), a volunteer-run, non-profit organization run by Mr. Jeff Ecker? They have appeared on the Bronxnet program "The Best Buddies Pet News Show."

This program goes to some of the toughest schools in the Bronx to talk about animal abuse, trying to get kids to respect animals and not be involved in dog fighting.

They are also raising money for the first 24-hour emergency animal hospital in the Bronx. Boy, do we need that! If any of you have ever been sick, you know we have to go all the way to Manhattan or Westchester if we need emergency care. Just 'cause we are from the Bronx doesn't mean our lives aren't important. You can visit the site and sign up for the newsletter at www.best-buddies.org

Or maybe pet health is your main concern. Since Poochie died from cancer 4 months ago, Mommy has been very busy with cancer organizations such as Canine Cancer Awareness (www.caninecancerawareness.org). Did you know that more than 50% of pet deaths are due to cancer?

She also became very active in pet bereavement and is an active member of PetLoss.com That site and the people on it helped her survive Poochie's going to the Bridge and getting ok enough to come rescue me. Every Monday night at 10pm, there is a candle lighting ceremony that you can do online with the group or by yourself at home. Thousands of people all over the WORLD do it at the same time so all the candle light can part the clouds of sorrow and be seen at Rainbow Bridge. Mommy says it saved her life. She hasn't missed a Monday night candle lighting in over 4 months. A lot of the members of Pet Loss have babies on Dogster/Catster. It's actually how Mommy found out about it.

Or maybe your interests are more related to Dogster (and Catster) issues. If you visit the sites of me and Poochie, you'll see Mommy did a lot of work and put a lot of effort into our pages. She got lots of help and advice from other members. Bambi (a very pretty Chihuahua with a great page) made Mommy Poochie's angel picture. Mommy would be happy to give back and help any of your parents make your pages the best they can be. Or maybe some of your Mommies and Daddies are computer buffs and can offer to help out others?

And speaking of Catster, why can't dogs and cats be pals??? We tried to be pals with Riley and Charlie but you can't do it. We can give rosettes but we can't hook up as pals except through the groups. Maybe we should ask Dogster and Catster to change this??!! There is enough discrimination in the world.

Ok, so that's just some ideas of things we could get involved in. Remember, you don't have to do anything to be in the group. If you want to just hang, that's ok too. But it would be great if we could make a difference - for us, our families, and for all the Beautiful Bronx Babies.

Let us know what you think. Please send your feedback to the WHOLE GROUP, not just to us. Check back often for other news and ideas. Mommy is thinking of making a real newsletter for us (she has a lot of free timesmile

Don't forget you can change your settings to have the group messages sent to your personal email or just check back here, especially on Mondays. If you want an issue on the agenda, just p-mail me through Dogster.

Meeting is adjourned. Have a GRRRRREAT week!

Woofs and Meows,
Benoni and Poochie
