Hi everyone,
I wish to report that Blanket and Trotskii, along with their mum and dad, attended the FIDO dog event this past Saturday, and that it freakin' rocked.

A little background -- FIDO is a non-profit, Brooklyn-based doggie advocacy group that hosts an offleash bonanza on the first Saturday of every month, 7 to 9 a.m. (raindate is always Sunday). This takes place in the "Long Meadow" of Brooklyn's Prospect Park in the lovely Park Slope neighborhood. FIDO organizers bring coffee and tea, pastries and lots of dog biscuits; they set up tables and garbage bags and everything! They also have donation jars so you can help defray their expenses, and you can take a free FIDO newsletter or buy a t-shirt if you wish.

We've been wanting to go to this for awhile, but I have a hard time getting up so very early on a weekend. This time I made myself do it, and I'm so glad I did. Imagine hundreds of dogs romping around on an endless lawn, maybe taking a swimming break at Dog Beach (as Blanket did), all far from the danger of cars and distraction of bicycles. It was truly an amazing sight, and an amazing morning. I was so proud of the boys, who actually LISTENED to us when we called them back from wandering too far away. We met lots of really cool people and dogs. And when we got home, we took a sweet sweet nap.

I hope that some of you can come to this event sometime. The weather this past Saturday was unseasonably warm, to say the least -- it felt like April or May. If the first Saturday in February is decent, we'll be there again; and if not, as soon as the climate permits.

Check it out! They are really nice people who bring nice strong coffee. Much respect for that.
