Berwoowoowoooooo- oo......I sing,- not bark |
| Barked: Tue Dec 5, '06 11:18am PST | | | | | | I'm trying hard not to scratch. My belly and inside of my back legs are itchy and have scabs on them. I have one dime-sized black spot on my leg. Some of my hair is missing. I've had this before and I had to go to the vet for a shot and some prednisone/antibiotic pills. Right now, it's not to that point. Mommy has changed my diet to salmon/potato to see if it helps, but it's only been about 3 weeks. I take Benadryl 2x's a day, fish oil 2x's a day. I got an allergy shampoo bath today and mommy puts cortisone spray on my skin. She also puts a anti-itch spray and an anti-lick stick on my skin. It looks like it might be helping. Does anyone have this problem? My hair is short right now, so I don't think it's because of matting. Any suggestions from my pup pals? Woof! | | | | |

| Barked: Tue Dec 5, '06 5:25pm PST | | | | | | Hi, Chewy.
I have itchy skin, too. This summer, my tummy was a mess and I had lost a lot of hair. I had to have antibiotics to clear that up. The vet thought I might have food allergies, so went on a special hypo-allergenic food for 6 weeks. Didn't really help. Dad put the itch stick and spray on me and that really helped. I still itch a lot, but right now I only have one sore spot where I scratched too hard. If anyone else has any ideas, I'd like to hear them, too. Also, my mom and dad put a t-shirt on me so I couldn't scratch my skin.

My skin is no longer red and I just have a couple of scabs and sores, but they seem to be clearing up nicely. I might have to borrow a t shirt from my mom since I like to scratch, and scratch, and scratch. Oh crap- mom's breaking out the flea comb and slicker brush. I gotta go hide under the bed. Shhhh....

Rub my Tummy- PLEAAASE!!!! |
| Barked: Tue Dec 12, '06 2:35pm PST | | | | | | Hi Chewy! This past summer I was real itchy too. I would break out with red bumps and itch so much they would get scabby. My mom took me to the vet and he gave me antibiotics and an anti-inflamatory medicine that I had to take for 15 days. That made it all go away and I don't have itchy's and scabs anymore. The vet didn't know if I had allergies, but treated me as I had a bacterial infection and it seemed to work good. Hopefully you get over the itchy's quick, cause i know how miserable i was when i was like that! Good luck! ~Kyna~ | | | | |

| Barked: Thu Dec 14, '06 9:34am PST | | | | | | I have been itchy for a month! Pollen is all over the place here and mom said that's the problem! I get these yummy peanut butter balls that mom said has some prednisone in it but I never taste it. I'm also taking an antibiotic now because I have a few big scabs and Mom's afraid my scabs are going to get infected. I think I'm going to get a haircut real soon because I have to get a bath every week to get the pollen out of my long hair! | | | | |

My mommy got some great stuff from Isle of Dogs (www.isleofdogs.com). She filled out a profile and the suggested shampoo and condition that has Evening Primrose Oil in it. Then she got this supplement to squirt onto my food (from the same place). I don't know what it was but I don't have bumps. I itch a little still but I don't have the bumps and irritation that I used to. If anyone knows why, my mom would love to know. However, if you want to try this stuff, it's a little expensive but it's worth it. My hair feels better and I smell great too. it's gentle on the skin because I get a bath every weekend (I go to the dog park and swim so we have to have a bath).

Sounds like your mom and dad are doing exactly the right thing - benadryl and non-allergenic shampoos are what I get too.

| Barked: Tue Apr 10, '07 9:21am PST | | | | | | My brother Beck forgot to mention that in addition to his special shampoo you can use oatmeal in the bath if you dont have any shampoo and are really miserable. And he also sometimes takes prescription antihistamines when its really bad. Finally, he eats Science Diet z/d Ultra which is totally allergen free and all of that seems to help. But spring is always bad. | | | | |

| Barked: Sat Nov 15, '08 5:30pm PST | | | | | | Ahhh! I'm so excited to finally be meeting more wheatens like me! I only know ONE other wheaten, and I like her very very much! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only itchy scratcher! Mommy is on her way to vet school soon and knows all kinds about this stuff...but she didn't think mine were too much of an issue. My scabs never get very big...she can hardly see them, only feel them, but I feel them and scratch more than I should. Mainly around my face and neck though. I'm mainly an indoor dog...so I'm not sure what causes these bumps. My mommies are also very watchful of me. They only give me organic, all natural food, shampoos (and great smelling conditioners!), treats (most of which they make themselves in the kitchen...which smell delicious!), and toys...which are my favorite! Who knew recycled and organic fiber toys could be so GREAT!? Anyway...she doesn't treat these with anything, but keeping me really clean...maybe she'll check it out a little closer now. Thanks friends! | | | | |
