Hey guys I was thinking about trying to start a fundraising thing for the local animal shelter. I was thinking of maybe a walk thing where you get people to donate money for each person and dog that attend or something like that. Im gonna talk to the animal shelter people tommarow to see if they can give me any info.

Hi D.O.G. ~~~~ They do that here.....fundraising for the Coastal
Humane Society. One of the Printers prints the brochures (can't
remember if they do it for free, but I think they do). They advertise
it in the paper (that's how Mama got into it) and turn the $$$ in
at the St. Patty's Day Parade here. They have the "Dog Walk" in the
parade.....people that have raised $$$ and those that haven't too....
The Humane Society gives out little gift bags to those that turn in
$$$....and there are prizes depending on the amount you raise.
Gift bags have magnets from the vet's office, pencils w/vet logo,
treats from local dog bakery,.....small toy......that kind of stuff.
The prizes are varied. Range from gift certificate to local doggie
store to the biggie......2 night stay in a 'house' on the beach. Someone is in the parking lot where we turn in $$$....taking pictures of everyone participating. After the parade, whoever took
pictures, sends them to you. If Mama ever gets on Dogstr +,
she will have a couple of pics of us at the parade on my page.
I think this was the 5th or 9th year they have done that here. Mama
and I raised a TON of money......in 2002, 03,04 and 05 but with
gas as high as it was this year, just couldn't do it.........Mama wasn't
a member of the Humane Society, she was just a fundraiser....but they are a 'well-oiled machine here'.........it takes a lot of people, co-operation and co-ordination and planning........they had their
brochures out by mid-February......that gave people plenty of time
to go run around and gather $$$.............GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah.....if you want.....Mama can mail you a copy of their
brochure so you can see what I'm talking about.......she still has
all her 'stuff' from them in my memorabilia box...............

Oh, I think that's a terrific idea! There are so many ways you can set something like that up and it's a great way to raise both money and awareness! Good luck D. O. G.!

Oh, and my mom and I helped out with a walk this summer. She thought maybe you could look at the one here and get some ideas smile! It's the APS Walk for the Animals held in Durham, NC. We raised a ton of money and had a lot of fun. There was the walk, but also a lot of side activities. Corporate sponsors could also rent tent space to let people know about their services (and give away some fun stuff--Mom let me take home a squeaky goldfish from the PetSmart tent!), there were flyball and agility demonstrations to promote activities with your pet...it was a great way not only to support local rescue but to help people see how far their relationship with their pet could go.
